Ambulanza

In Venice there are no cars. So when you need to take a bus - you jump on the vaperetto. When you need something delivered, it comes by topo. Even the garbage is picked up by boat rather than trash truck. It should come as no surprise then, that when you have a medical emergency in Venezia, they send a boat. Most of the time, these "ambulanza" boats are seen moving at a high rate of speed, up on a plane with lights flashing and sirens blaring. For this more subdued encounter I was on a traghetto.
For a photo sequence that's more typical, check out my post entitled "What to do when you're a gondolier in Venice and an ambulance boat approaches".
These boats perform an important, lifesaving duty.
All the same, I Hope I never need to ride in one.
