Under the Accademia

I shot these two photos while passing through on the vaporetto. Every time I make my way over the Accademia Bridge or go under on a boat, I notice a gondola there.
It's not a very big quay, and not nearly as prestigeous as some of the spots in front of the luxury hotels that line the fondamenta, but I'd be more than happy to take over for the guy who operates there.

That spot may not be too profitable for future interests. Last month there were news that the old, worn wooden bridge is about to be replaced with a new, larger stone-metal stucture to further capitalize on the success of the Calatrava bridge and whatever else for the 2020 Olympics.

I'd guess that particular gondola spot will have to close while construction works are underway at the Accademia crossing (although it may take a few years or even a decade, at the usual european pace).
