Acqua Alta gets Really Alta

Venice received an extra high Acqua Alta today.
Reports listed the tide as 156 cm.
It was the highest in twenty years.
Apparently it rose so high that the city workers were unable to set up some of the walking boards for fear that they might float away.

Update:
Our friend
René at Venice Kayak has some great photos on his blog.

The walking boards started to float at the water rose, so they were removed again to avoid accidents.

I have a bunch of photos from a friend on my blog: http://rene.seindal.dk/2008/12/02/exceptional-high-tide-in-venice/
