Just the Photo - Windshadow

I spent a fair amount of my day concerned for my gondoliers in Newport - wondering how the winds would blow today.  We had what we call "Santa Ana" winds, which blow from land towards the ocean.
This is contrary to our prevailing winds, which blow from the ocean - one of the main reasons people love living here as the air is clean and cool, with just the right humidity.
Winds coming from the inland mean that everything is backwards for us, presenting lots of challenges.
One nice thing though, is that we sometimes see calmer waters in the areas that have wind shadows (sailors call it the leeward side).

I snapped this today of gondolier Simon departing with his passengers on a beautiful afternoon in Newport.
