In Newport Beach, as in many other gondola locations,
it's tradition for couples to kiss under every bridge.
As a habit I remind people that:
"You don't need the bridges, they're only there to remind you.
When you start needing the bridges - that's when you need to come back and see us".
Here's a photo of a couple who probably didn't need the bridge they were approaching. Either that or they wanted to be sure that by the time they went under it, they'd be kissing.
