Shoeless Tim

There are many things that can contribute to a rower's effectiveness.
Strength, technique, and conditioning, just to name a few.
Another important element is a rower's connection with the boat.
For this reason, it's not unusual to see guys - from Venice to California - kicking off their shoes.

Here we see Tim "Bepi" Reinard taking full advantage of the nerves on the bottom of his feet.
He's got his Topsiders on the trastolini in front of him, and he's fully connected with the gondola.
This was taken during the start of his run during the Solo Sprint.
He came in third...and I can't help but wonder if it had anything to do with the shoes.
